The Famous Hardware Building in Downtown Springdale Features New Artist
Nashville-based artist is selected for the third installation of 2022
Springdale, AR – The windows of the Famous Hardware building in Downtown Springdale are once again activated with an art installation. This time the windows have been brought to life by the artist Amelia Briggs who was commissioned by Creative Arkansas Community Hub & Exchange (CACHE) with funding from the Tyson Family Foundation.
Amelia Briggs is a multidisciplinary artist based in Nashville, TN. Her work has been exhibited internationally and throughout the United States including exhibitions in Paris, France; Florence, Italy, and London, UK. Composed of sewn, reclaimed fabrics, fiber, oil and latex, Briggs constructs objects and images that operate as whimsical characters from an unknown animated universe. Pony Gate, her installation for the Famous Hardware Store, acts as a series of dioramas. Each of the store’s windows illuminate the link between our sense of self and our childhoods.
The #famoushardware art installations, which began at the beginning of 2021 have featured a variety of artists from across the county. The installations are intended to make art accessible to the Springdale community and create new experiences for people visiting the downtown. Each installation will be visible from the sidewalk in front of the Famous Hardware building located at 113 West Emma Avenue and will be explained in English, Spanish and Marshallese.
Below are the art installation details:
· Briggs will install Pony Gate from August 24-28.
· CACHE will host an artist talk on Wednesday, September 28 at 6 pm at 214 S Main Street.
· A public reception will be held with the artist on Thursday, September 28 at 7pm at the Famous Hardware Building located at 113 West Emma Avenue
· The art installation will be in place through the end of November.
More information about the art installation can be found at downtownspringdale.org.
